“I hope that what I share here will be a refreshing, encouraging, approach for you in the study of Scripture. For years before opening the Bible, I've always prayed something like this: Holy Spirit, You are the Master Teacher; please open my eyes, my ears, and my heart to understand Your Word -- and by the way I respond -- help me to bear much fruit for the Father and the Son, presently and eternally.

For years before opening the Bible, I've always prayed something like this:

“Holy Spirit, You are the Master Teacher; please open my eyes, my ears, and my heart to understand Your Word -- and by the way I respond -- help me to bear much fruit for the Father and the Son, presently and eternally.”

One day, I was sitting with another believer, about to go through God’s Word, and as I began to open our time in prayer, this time — almost involuntarily — I prayed something I don’t ever recall praying, and it was this:

“Holy Spirit, thank You that You LOVE opening Your Word to us. Thank You that You take great delight when we set our hearts to study Your Word and that You greatly enjoy teaching Your Word to us.”

The first part of that prayer really caught me: "You love opening Your Word to us." By God's grace, I hope to incorporate that part of my praying first, each time I open up the Bible and each time I teach or preach from it -- especially for recording my radio broadcasts.

I don't think it's too much to say that this seems like a "game changer" in how to approach reading and studying Scripture. If you've read this far, I sure hope this encourages you, and if it does, please feel free to share this with others!”
